Sunset cruises in Hanoi aren’t what you might expect if you’re thinking sea or big rivers. Here, it’s about the calm, iconic waters of the West Lake and the Red River at the edges of the city. When the sun starts to set, the skyline softens, old colonial buildings catch golden light, and locals come out to walk or bike along the shore.

One of my favorite spots to board is near Trúc Bạch Lake, where you can find small boats that quietly drift over the water. It’s nothing flashy but perfectly peaceful. The gentle breeze carries the scent of lotus flowers and the faint sounds of street vendors packing up for the night. A tip: weeknights are less crowded, and the temperature feels just right without the weekend buzz. Bring a light jacket; the riverfront can get cool once the sun drops. Also, keep an eye out for small floating cafes selling local snacks if you want to nibble while watching the sky shift colors. It’s a great little escape from the usual city hustle that most visitors miss.
