Hiking & Trekking in Hanoi

Hiking around Hanoi isn’t what most people expect. The city itself is busy, noisy, and... crowded. But just a short ride out, you’ll find trails that climb limestone cliffs, wind through rice paddies, and lead to quiet hilltop villages where time moves slower.

One of the easiest spots is Ba Vi National Park, about an hour west of Hanoi. It’s cool, shaded, and the hike up to the ancient temple on its peaks is refreshing after the city heat. You might even catch local families camping or fishing in the park.

If you want something slightly rougher, head north to the Tam Dao Mountains. The air is crisp, and the views out over the misty forests at dawn feel like a secret only locals keep. The trails there vary from relaxed walks to full-on treks through thick jungle.

A local tip? Avoid weekends if you want peace, or go early morning on weekdays when paths are practically empty. Also, grab your water and some snacks at Hanoi’s markets before you leave,stores near the trails tend to be sparse. And don’t underestimate the little things, like wearing proper shoes and sunscreen here. You’ll be glad you did.
