KOKI - The House of Senses

Pretty disappointing Michelin one star experience. Out of the dishes we ordered, there was only one standout - the charcoal grilled tuna (otoro), and the pork belly with poached egg was also a commendable second. The remaining dishes, Caesar salad with guanciale, sushi platter, yakitori platter were sadly not up to mark. Particularly bad was the yakitori platter, where the skewers were pretty dry and had no taste of charcoal fire. Later I learnt from the waitress that this was machine cooked and by gas fire, not charcoal fire. This coming from a Michelin one star restaurant makes me feel somewhat cheated. While I don’t expect it to be comparable to the better specialized yakitori restaurants, it is still seriously disappointing. As for the sushi, I’ve had much better sushi at conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan. And the tempura… the prawn itself was good, but the tempura batter turned out to be soft and soggy… Service and atmosphere was good though, and not overly pretentious. Unfortunately, after spending nearly 6M VND here, the negatives here far outweighed the positive for a positive recommendation.
We went to Hibana by Koki for lunch and loved it. The food was amazing (especially the wagyu), and having Chef Yamaguchi cook for us made the whole experience feel really special. The service is exactly what you’d expect at this level — polished and seamless.
They have a sparkling tea which is so good and not too sweet. The root and green salads were great. The miso black cod was so flavorful and comes with egg roll and mashed potatoes with carrot in it (never had that before but so good). Chicken yakitori is huge and there are 8 diff kinds of skewers and came with yellow zucchini. Some have a glaze and some are just salted. Shrimp ramen was yummy. The mochi is great. Then got all three ice creams. Coconut was probably our favorite and the sweetest. Matcha one was very strong and good but just be prepared for a strong matcha taste. Black sesame was great too (more savory than sweet). Make sure to try the sake drip infused with fruit. Service is outstanding!
Such an epic night with great chefs who entertain and educate. You see each course being made and watch experts create greatness. The staff is incredibly attentive and the courses weave together. It’s an elegant fun night and a paradise. Great experience
We chose Koki to celebrate my birthday this year at Capella Hanoi. Koki - House of Senses, unites Japanese flavours through Akio Bar & Lounge, Hibana's MICHELIN Star Teppanyaki, and Izakaya's MICHELIN selected curated dishes. It was an enchanting feast for the senses with layers of flavours embedded in each single dish. The teppanyaki menu includes the freshest seafood and beef dishes which were elegantly presented with attentive service. Staff was detailed-oriented and professional, and were keen to chat with customers to make their day. A birthday touch was also offered for my celebration to complete our joyous evening.
