Discover Vu Lang, a renowned handicraft village in Hanoi’s Thanh Oai district, famous for its statue carving, especially worshipping objects. Explore the village, home to 450 households and 500 skilled workers, and see rows of statues drying along the roads.
Learn about the statue-making process, from selecting the right wood to carving, painting, and finishing. Watch artisans at work, chiseling and trimming statues, and see how they apply up to 10 coats of paint before dipping the statues in red lacquer and trimming them with gold or silver.
Discover the village’s diverse products, including Buddha statues, horizontal lacquered boards, altars, and other worshipping objects. Learn how Vu Lang artisans have crafted statues for famous pagodas, temples, and relic sites, including the One-Pillar Pagoda in Hanoi, Bai Dinh Pagoda in Ninh Binh province, and Keo Pagoda in Thai Binh province.

Start with a pickup from Hanoi’s Old Quarter and head to Chuong, a village that has been well-known for the craft of conical hat-making for over 300 years. Get an observe how conical hats are made and decorate a hat by painting it then bring it home as a souvenir.
Depart for the Quang Phu Cau village, which has been producing incense for more than 100 years. Take a walk to the center of the village and see how locals make incense on the artisanal, family scale. Meet a family who specializes in dyeing incense sticks and take in the colorful bundles of incense.
Back to the city center. First place for drop off: Hanoi Train Street. If you don't want to get drop off here, please wait in the car.
