I visited Batavia in Hanoi because I was craving some Indonesian food and ordered the Rendang and Soto Ayam Lamongan. The Soto Ayam was quite comforting, although the flavor was a little lighter than what I’m used to in Indonesia. The sambal was quite tomato-heavy and not spicy enough for my taste, so I asked for some freshly chopped chilies (rawit) on the side — much better! 🌶️ The Rendang was a bit different from what I expected. The seasoning was rich and quite strong, but the texture of the spices was rather coarse and reminded me more of the seasoning you might find with Indonesian chicken satay. It was definitely quite different from the Padang-style rendang I’m familiar with back home. That said, the beef itself was tender and the overall taste was still enjoyable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to respond to requests. The only downside was that the rendang took quite a long time to arrive — I had already finished almost half of my Soto Ayam before it was served. Overall, it’s nice to have a place in Hanoi where you can enjoy familiar Indonesian flavors. There are a few things that could be improved in terms of authenticity and timing, but the friendly service and comforting food still made it a pleasant experience. 🇮🇩
We had an amazing time at this restaurant. The restaurant is located right on the corner of a Main Street so it was very easy to find. The atmosphere was very pleasant and inviting for foreigners like me and my son. The restaurant had a nice and clean interior, beautifully designed. Everything we ordered was so delicious, and came out in less than 20min. The staff were very attentive and polite to us. If there is one thing I would comment on is probably the portion size of the beef rendang, I felt it could have been a bit more beef on the plate, but that could also be me just being greedy lol nonetheless everything was soooo good, 10/10 for everything. The prices were fair, we ordered about 1 appetizer, 4 main entrees, 6 sides, 2 fresh coconuts and 1 bottled water and price was still under $40 usd!!!! Can’t beat that at all!! Oh yea, and they have good WiFi👍🏾👍🏾 It was great, highly recommend. 100/10👍🏾😊
Another lovely Halal restaurant. I really enjoyed tasting the Indonesian dishes. The food was clean and delicious. I really liked their appetisers. My husband really liked their Redeng with rice. They were so good.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic time dining here with our family! As Sri Lankans, we were thrilled to find that the flavor profiles were rich, heavily spiced, and very similar to the food we love back home. The food was absolutely delicious. We highly recommend the Rendang, the Nasi Goreng, the Fried Prawns, and the Deep Fried Omelet—every dish was packed with authentic, bold flavors. The portion sizes are very generous, and the pricing is excellent for the quality and amount of food you get. The service was incredible. The food came out really fast—way faster than we expected! The drinks were also great, and I highly recommend grabbing some of their soft drinks to pair with the rich and spicy dishes. Highly recommend Batavia for anyone looking for a great meal with great value!
