Begin your journey to Chuong Village, a charming destination known for its stunning traditional art and the production of ‘Non La,’ or conical hats. These hats are iconic symbols of Vietnamese culture, and Chuong Village is renowned for crafting the highest quality ones. Upon arrival, see artisans at work, creating these elegant hats by hand. Learn about the rich cultural heritage that makes Vietnam so unique. Discover how, in the past, conical hats were used as headwear to protect from sunlight and rain, and how they have now become a fashionable accessory for Vietnamese women. Next, learn about the process of making conical hats. Discover how bamboo is split into long, skinny parts, soaked in water, and dried in the sun. See how green palm leaves are processed and dried throughout the dry season. Watch as handicraft men add red or pink silks into the hat and sometimes decorate them by embroidering flowers, birds, or other designs. If you visit on the 4th, 10th, 14th, 20th, 24th, or 30th of the lunar month, experience the Chuong Village market. From early morning, white conical hats appear everywhere in the market. Sellers bring around 10-20 pieces of their productions and walk around to seek customers. Find a comfortable place to sit and wait for the seller to approach you. If you visit on the 10th of the third lunar month, experience the special festival of Chuong conical hat making village. Enjoy classical games such as wrestling, Mandarin square capturing, and dragon snake. Watch or participate in the human chess and rice cooking competition, the most favorite games of this festival. Depart for the Quang Phu Cau village, which has been producing incense for more than 100 years. Take a walk to the center of the village and see how locals make incense on the artisanal, family scale. Meet a family who specializes in dyeing incense sticks and take in the colorful bundles of incense. See the next level of incense production with a tour of a nearby factory. Learn how incense is made from scratch and more about the lives of manual workers. Take home memories of your visit with incense souvenirs from the place they’re produced before returning to Hanoi.
