Description

Your journey begins in a local neighborhood full of everyday beauty. As you walk through narrow alleys framed by banana trees, vintage scooters, and tangled power lines, your host welcomes you into a world where life moves with intention and stories linger in the small details. Inside, you’ll step into a warm creative haven. Here, you’ll choose your piece of wood, jackfruit, rosewood, acacia, or a piece of flood-fallen timber that once traveled through a season of storms before being lovingly reclaimed. Each block carries its own history: a scent, a grain, a memory of the land. You’ll hear stories from Vietnam’s traditional craft villages like Đồng Kỵ and Chàng Sơn, places where generations shaped wood with patience, skill, and pride. These stories guide your hands as you begin carving your own piece. With gentle support, you’ll start shaping your creation, a multi board, a bookmark, a coaster, a small creature, or anything your imagination calls forward. The tools are simple and grounded: chisels, sandpaper, beeswax. As you carve, you might feel something soften a moment of presence, a small spark of healing, a sense of connection to the material in your hands. Tea is offered. Soft instrumental music fills the space. Time feels generous. When your piece is ready, you’ll seal it with beeswax, tuck it into a handmade cloth bag, and write a small note to yourself, to someone you miss, or to someone you hope to become. As a heartfelt gift, we’ll also be your companions in Hanoi, sharing recommendations and helping you explore the city in meaningful ways. Mộc Thôn is more than a workshop. It is a place where flood-fallen wood is reborn, where emerging local artists can share their work with the world, and where each guest becomes part of a gentle circle of creativity, care, and community. Here, art isn’t just crafted. It’s felt, shared, and brought back to life just like the wood in your hands.
