Private Tour: So Communal House Discover the So Communal House, a 350-year-old architectural treasure in the ancient area of Doai, Hanoi. Begin your journey by walking through the three-passage gate, adorned with intricate carvings, including two dragons flanking the moon and four sacred animals at the wooden pillars’ foot. Explore the seven compartments and two lean-tos of the communal house, supported by 32 ironwood pillars in six horizontal lines. Admire the delicate patterns carved into the wooden components and the 350-year-old ironwood doors on three faces of the house. Learn about the history of the communal house, which was upgraded in 1673 under King Le Gia Tong’s Dynasty and has undergone four restorations over the years. Discover the main chamber, where an altar honors the three generals of the Cao family who helped King Dinh Tien Hoang fight against 12 independent feudal warlords for control of the country in the mid-10th century. See the 40 jarligs from the 2nd year of Hoang Dinh (1601) to the 9th year of Khai Dinh (1924) and ancient parallel sentences displayed in the communal house.
