Discover how villagers use materials like earth, coal, and seashells to produce vibrant hues. See how the paintings are coated with sticky rice paste for durability, allowing them to withstand time and sunlight.
Admire the diverse themes of Dong Ho paintings, which reflect wishes for luck, daily life, and popular stories. See works like 'Jealous Fight,' 'A Market Day,' and 'The Frog Teacher,' showcasing the aesthetic beauty of Vietnamese culture.
Experience the traditional art of Dong Ho painting, where each piece is handcrafted with care. Learn about the significance of this cultural heritage and its role in Vietnamese life, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Next, visit Dau Pagoda, located in Thanh Khuong village, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh Province, about 30km from Hanoi. Being a center of the ancient Luy Lau Citadel that dates back to the second century A.D, this pagoda is considered the most ancient religious structure and an initial source of Buddhism in Vietnam.
Explore the pagoda, built with traditional Oriental architecture. There are four rows of houses that are connected to one another and stand in the shape of a rectangle. They surround three main halls: the front hall, the middle hall, and the upper hall.
In the large front yard stands the Hoa Phong tower built with large bricks. The bricks were baked at a high temperature that turned them into glazed terra-cotta. Six layers on top of the tower were damaged, but the other 3 layers from its base are still standing firmly. The pagoda’s most ancient artifact was defined to exist under the Tran Dynasty , and the first restoration was made in 1313 under the reign of King Tran Anh Tong.
