Accor Platinum member here. While this is undeniably a legendary property with unmatched history, fantastic luxury details, and extraordinary staff who speak fluent English (a rarity compared to other Accor properties in Vietnam), our actual stay was a bit disappointing. A few notable issues: * The room had a distinct moldy smell. * Construction and renovation noise was intrusive throughout the day. * The TV channels didn't work for our entire stay in both rooms. * The beds were uncomfortably hard, while the pillows were overly soft and almost unusable. * There was an awkward mix-up in the Executive Lounge as the lounge staff questioned our access which created an unwelcoming moment. Sofitel Metropole is a really nice hotel, but I've seen too many bits and pieces that don't go together with probably the most famous hotel in Vietnam. During out Vietnam holidays I've had more pleasant stay in brand new Pullman Ninh Bing or Pullman Danang, even in the new Novotel Danang. Pullman Ninh Binh and Novotel Danang offer by miles better value for money. Also, the tip I've received from a manager in another Accor hotel is to check a brand new Fairmont in Hanoi, which supose to be a true top class.
From the moment I arrived until the day I left, every member of the team made me feel genuinely welcome. The service was warm, elegant, and thoughtful without ever feeling formal or distant. The beautiful heritage building, peaceful atmosphere, exceptional dining, and attention to every detail created an experience that was far beyond a luxury hotel—it truly felt like a home away from home. What impressed me most was the people. Whether at the Heritage Wing, the restaurants, the lounge, the pool, or housekeeping, everyone greeted me with kindness and professionalism. It is clear that hospitality here comes from the heart. Thank you to the entire team for making my stay so memorable. I am already looking forward to returning to my home in Hanoi.
The hotel itself is breathtakingly beautiful. From the historic architecture to the guest rooms and restaurants, there is not a single corner that isn't thoughtfully designed and elegant. Every tiny detail has been carefully curated, and it is almost impossible to believe that this property was built 125 years ago. The level of preservation and maintenance is truly remarkable. What impressed us even more than the stunning surroundings, however, was the exceptional staff. Every member of the team was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional. Special thanks to Ms. Hua from Butler Service for taking such wonderful care of us. We were also warmly welcomed by the Le Club staff, whose beautiful smiles made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The team at Spices Garden was equally outstanding, and the fitness center staff went above and beyond by greeting us by name every day. These thoughtful gestures made our stay truly memorable and deeply touching. Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is far more than just a luxury hotel—it is an experience in itself. In fact, Hanoi is worth visiting for this hotel alone. Highly recommended, and we look forward to returning someday.
One word sums up our recent stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi: impeccable. We were a family of four–myself, wife, and two rambunctious five year old boys–who spent a total of four nights here. The same day upon arrival, my wife and I knew we needed to extend our stay here; everything was just too good. (The mere scent of the hotel could be bottled up, and apparently already is at Le Boutique, one of their onsite retailers!) The concierge worked flawlessly and flexibly to ensure we were able to not only extend our stay, but also maintain our adjourning rooms. After just a day, many of the staff were familiar with us: our names, our hotel rooms, and daily rituals; their observations quickly allowed us to benefit from personalized and personable treatment. And not only with staff with whom we had frequent encounters: they have somehow figured out how to disseminate this guest knowledge amongst virtually all of their staff, so no matter who you encountered, they were well-informed. This resulted in their level of service being unparalleled to anything previously experienced. The decor of the hotel itself and hotel rooms can best be described as timeless, and sufficiently balanced their colonial heritage with modern comforts without it feeling out-of-place. The food and drinks available were fresh and abundant, with a range of cuisines able to meet all cultural preferences and any dietary restrictions. I cannot recommend enough, and we will definitely stay again whenever we return to Hanoi.
This hotel is truly excellent, and the service from all staff members was outstanding. In particular, the restaurant experience was a highlight. My daughter and I ate there three times, once for afternoon tea and twice for beef pho. Everything was delicious. The service in the restaurant was consistently excellent, and the staff were very attentive and kind. One detail that especially impressed me was when my daughter and I ordered a single bowl of pho to share. Without us even asking, the restaurant staff thoughtfully divided it into two separate bowls before serving it. It was a small gesture, but it reflected the level of care and attention to detail that we experienced throughout our stay. One of the most memorable parts of our stay was the hotel tour. We visited the Bomb Shelter, and the guide who led the tour was exceptional. The explanations were engaging, informative, and brought the history to life. I honestly thought my daughter might not be interested, but to my surprise, it turned out to be the part of the hotel she enjoyed the most. It was an unforgettable and meaningful experience for both of us. However, there was one major issue that affected our stay significantly. The intermittent renovation noise from upstairs started shortly after 7 a.m. and was extremely disruptive. It made it impossible to continue sleeping, and I only managed about six hours of sleep that night. For a hotel, aside from excellent service, a good night’s sleep is essential. Unfortunately, because of the renovation noise, I was unable to rest properly and decided to move to another hotel the next day. I had actually asked the staff at check-in about the timing of the renovation work, and I was told it would not start early in the morning. However, for me, 7 a.m. is still too early when it comes to noise during a hotel stay. That said, no matter what, I am still giving this hotel five stars. The service, hospitality, restaurant team, and overall experience were all exceptional. I felt it would be unfair for the renovation issue alone to outweigh everything else the hotel did so well. Overall, this is a wonderful hotel, and I would gladly consider staying here again in the future.
